Aylar önce bir arkadaşımın tavsiyesi ile Masterword diye bir çeviri firmasına başvuru yapmıştım. Boş zamanlarımda Türkçe-İngilizce çeviri hizmeti vererek ek gelir elde etmek istiyordum. Dün beni aradılar ve süreçle ilgili bilgiler verdiler. Houston'da son zamanlarda Türkçe çeviri talebinde bir patlama olduğunu söylediler. Tabii burada profesyonel çeviriden bahsetmiyorum, benim bu alanda herhangi bir eğitimim yok. Ancak bu firma da zaten bu yönde uygun fiyatlı hizmet veriyor. Her neyse, edindiğim bilgileri paylaşayım, belki birine yararı olur. Bana hafta için mesai saatlerinde uymadığı için sürece devam etmeyeceğim.

Ücret: Saatlik 25 dolar, minimum 2 saatlik ödeme yapılıyor. İş 10 dakika da sürse bu şekilde.

İş niteliği: %80 oranda yüz yüze çeviri. Genelde sağlık kurumları, okullar, mahkeme salonları gibi yerlerde. %20 oranda ise telefon veya görüntülü sohbet ile. Genelde 2-3 gün öncesinden size bilgi veriliyor ve işi almak isteyip istemediğiniz soruluyor. Neredeyse tamamen hafta içi mesai saatleri içinde oluyor.

Step 1: Overview & Guidelines:
MWS Introductory Overview: (TAKE NOTES!)
· Covers MasterWord Introductory process and interpretation work
· Review types of interpreting modes, interpreting encounter, note taking skills, and more.
· Covers what MWS expects from interpreters
· It will quiz you throughout the presentation on the material you just listened to.
· You have two chances to answer the question correctly for each quiz. You will need to restart the video if you do not answer the questions correctly at the second try.

Interpreter Ethics: (TAKE NOTES!)
· Covers the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC) Code of Ethics
Federal Regulations for Language Support
· Review of relevant laws to interpretation

Take the Practice Test

· Prepare for the Health Care Interpreter Assessment (HCIA)
· 15 Multiple choice section & oral test for consecutive interpreting with a sight translation (Must pass to proceed to the actual assessment)

· This is a PDF file that you can download to your computer or print.
· Gives you the explanation of the written and oral assessments.
· Provides:
o Sample questions that help you practice for the assessment.
o Explanation and definitions of insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid
o Medical terminology on page 10 & 11
o ORAL assessment sample on page 6
· If you do not pass the practice quiz, additional educational resources will be recommended

Step 3: Interpreter Assessment

Take the Health Care Interpreter Assessment (HCIA)

· Health Care Related Terms and Usage

· Ethics and Professional Conduct for Interpreters

· You must answer 75 multiple choice questions in 45 minutes or less

· A passing score of 75% or higher, qualifies you to take the Oral Assessment.

***If you fail the multiple-choice assessment, you will be offered additional educational resources to review and then you will get a 2nd attempt.

Take the Oral Assessment (2-part assessment)

· You can take same day
· Review SAMPLE oral assessment from the STUDY GUIDE, page 6
· Once completed, the assessment will be sent out to an Evaluator
· Oral assessment consists of 2 parts:
· Pre-recorded scenarios

o Listen to each scenario; after each language scenario, you will hear a light beep; after light beep interpret into your language; press the “#” to go to next scenario

· Site translation

o Open link in browser, read English paragraph in 2 minutes or less; interpret to your language by calling the number given on your dashboard.

Health Care Interpreter Assessment (HCIA):

· Use a computer or laptop? No Mobile Devices!
· Take the assessment in a quiet area free of interruptions.

It is a timed test; you will be allowed 45 minutes for completion (the timer will be on right side of screen once you start).  The time starts when you click on the ?Written Assessment? link and it does not stop nor can it be interrupted (therefore, do not close your browser before you finish answering all questions)

· 75 multiple choice questions, any question left unanswered is counted as an incorrect answer. Make an educated guess if needed. Do NOT leave any questions blank.
· Take your assessment soon after you have reviewed the material
· Be familiar with GENERAL medical terminology
· Approx. 40% of your test will come from information in the t videos, review your notes.

Oral Assessment:

· Take the assessment in a quiet area. All instructions/audio will only play once.
· If using your cellphone, make sure you have plenty of signal and fully charged battery.
· Please keep the same vocabulary, tone, expression, and speed of voice as the speaker.
· TAKE QUICK NOTES! have a notebook and pen ready to take notes as needed.
